Making sacrifices is part of life.  Sacrifices are necessary to produce positive results – the way scientists and inventors would devote their time and research learning about the subject matter that they want to discover. Imagine a world without the light bulb, if Thomas Edison did not sacrifice his time and labor to invent it? The world wouldn’t be as we knew it. It is the same with our parents. They made choices about what is most important and set priorities. They toiled on their work to give us food, shelter, clothes and a good education to equip us in the future. We owe it all to them. Maybe it had crossed their mind to enjoy the fruits of their labor for themselves but decided to prioritize the needs of children first. As we grow and mature as adults, their investment of time, money and effort comes to fruition.  We children are the proof that their sacrifice is worth it all. Quoting from Mitch Albom in his book, The Five People You Meet in Heaven, “Sometimes when you sacrifice something precious, you’re not really losing it. You’re just passing it on to someone else.”

Mag-uumpisa ang kwento natin sa buhay ni Greggy Canja noong araw ng kanyang mock exam taong 2003. Nasa Davao siya at kumukuha ng reviewer para sa CPA . Palapit na sana yung shining moment kung saan magiging Certified Public accountant na si Greggy nung bigla siyang pinagpawisan ng matindi at napakamot sa mga tanong.

“Magdamagan naman ako nagreview kagabi, pero bakit ganito Lord?” Nagtanong si Greggy sa Panginoon. Sabay tingin sa questionnaire…at Walang sumagot. Grrr… Napailing siya at umayos sa kanyang upuan at tiningnan ulit ang exam. Blanko. Biglang lumamig ang aircon at mas lalong dumagdag ang kaba. Balik ulit sa exam. PInaikot-ikot niya ang lapis at nagnakaw ng tingin sa kanyang seatmate. “Naku! Mukhang blanko rin.” aniya sa sarili niya. Napatingin siya sa taas at umasang magkahimala at makita ang kasagutan sa kisame. Wala pa rin. May ilang minutong nakalipas at nagpasya nalang si Greggy na sagutan na lang kung ano ang alam niya at nanghula sa iba.

How lucky it is then for some who find themselves filled with Joy with their work. How fortunate it is to be like Eunice Tacastacas, Junior Accountant at the KMBI Head Office. Eunice was recently promoted and she shares her secrets in being happy in her job.

According to the Wall Street journal, there are 5 C’s that drives at work. These are: Contribution, Conviction, Culture, Commitment, and Confidence. Eunice happens to find all of these in the KMBI.

Oh happy day. Another day starts with this quote for Eman Manlapaz, KMBI’s Training Associate in KMBI’s head office. He searches for inspirational quotes for the day and shares this for his co-employees in the hope that he could touch someone’s life or inspire someone for a day. It is refreshing to have people who take time to encourage others to be better versions of themselves. Kathleen Norris shares a common theme through her quote:

Awe and wonderment is probably the apt adjectives to encapsulate the many experiences of Merry F. Danes, Entrepreneur Development Services Associate in KMBI. She has visited far flung areas in the Philippines to give business tips and develop KMBI clients’ enterprises to move from micro to small and medium sized ones.

One thing about being an EDS staff is the travel. People think it’s a glamorous job to travel around the Philippines but for somebody who had to endure muddy and rocky roads on a motorcycle and spending time in far flung areas, it is not an easy feat.

Abundance.  A word commonly associated with worldly riches and good harvest. And for most people, it is a concept most would aspire to. Who doesn’t want a life of abundance? Never having to worry about what to eat for the next day, where to live or how to educate the children.  Abundance. This seemed to be the opposite of the scarcity embedded in the memory of Russel Amoranto, one of KMBI’s EDO Assistants as he was growing up.

Everyone who is pretty much familiar with the stories in the Bible knows of the famous pregnancy of Sarah, Abraham’s wife. That despite Sarah’s old age, she was able to carry and give birth to a son. It was Abraham’s trust on the promise of the Lord, which truly made their wish come true. It is also the same trust and faith in the Lord, which keeps Crismar Escalon, KMBI Digos Branch Manager, holding onto the desire of having her own child together with husband, Russell.
